For a long time I kept a note on my phone of questions I couldn't answer. Not trick questions — the ordinary ones. Why suffering. Why this book and not another. Why anyone should take an ancient text seriously at all.
I stopped asking them out loud because the answers I got back were always too fast. So I did the slow thing instead: I read the people who disagreed with me first, then the people who had spent their lives on it, and I wrote down what held up and what didn't.
What came out of that is this book. It doesn't pretend the hard parts are easy. It doesn't hand you certainty. It gives you the actual arguments, in plain language, so you can decide what you think and know why you think it.
If you've been carrying questions quietly — this was written for you.
Readers
"I expected to be told what to think. Instead I was handed the strongest version of every objection and walked through it slowly. I finished it in four nights."
"I'm not a believer. A friend sent me this and I read the whole thing without once feeling managed. That alone is rare."
"I've been in church my whole life and never had language for the questions underneath. This gave me that, and it never once made me feel stupid."
